iQuilt is a nonprofit organization founded in 2011 by Doug Suisman, a Hartford local and founder of Suisman Urban Design. iQuilt was founded based on a partnership with the city of Hartford to conduct public works and urban design projects for the city. The iQuilt team is lead by executive director Jackie Mandyck, who oversees and direct all projects. iQuilt relies on donors to fund specific projects; being a nonprofit they can take and spend money without the budget constraints of a city commission or board.
Being the founder of an urban design company, Suisman committed to make iQuilt the urban designer for the city. All donor funded plans iQuilt takes on are designed by Suisman Urban Design. As of now, their area of focus is the area surrounding their office, a crucial part of the downtown. They incorporate local artists, and highlight local historical sites. Recent iQuilt activities have involved aiding in Winterfest, a yearly celebration in the capitol city for businesses and residents to come together.
iQuilt focuses on complete streets, and their contribution to a more equitable, sustainable city.
