After the initial interview with iQuilt, it was discovered that the Bushnell Gardens project never fully came to be. I requested a follow up interview to ask the sole question: What happened to the project, and why was it never finished?
He responded by saying, “It was simply a lack of funding. We had moved Market Street and Gold Street to create space, which took a considerable amount of time. It wasn’t easy to move the streets as many local businesses got involved, and the usual politics began. Once the streets were moved, we were ready to go ahead with the project, even though it went through may revisions. At the end of the day, it all boiled down to funding, which we didn’t have. Usual donors hadn’t been contributing due to the strain of the pandemic, so it never went beyond a pan, unfortunately.”
I asked if they’d given up on the project, and if they’d just leave the empty space after all the effort to create it.
He responded by saying the same thing as the initial interview: “We’ll take any plan we can get. Anything that can get funded we would most likely implement in that area. ”
I then had to ask why the project is still on the website, to which he responded :
“The project isn’t over yet, we don’t plan to abandon it. once the donors come back, we get some funding, and get a plan together, we plan to move on this project. As of now, it is simply on hold; which isn’t the ideal situation, but it will be completed one day.”
